Do I need a referral letter?

A referral letter is not always required but a letter from your GP or other medical specialist can be useful under certain circumstances. Some private medical insurers require a GP letter of referral prior to making an appointment. Please check with your insurer.

How long is the appointment?

Appointments are usually for 30 minutes, although you will be given more time if the clinical situation requires it, to deal with the problem. Sometimes it is necessary to put dilating drops in the eyes. These can temporarily blur the vision, so it is sometimes better not to drive to the appointment, if at all possible. The effects of these drops wear off after a few hours.
